There was a minor upset when top-rankedIndios (4-2) were outscored by fourth ranked Gigantes (3-2) in Mayaguez 108-72 on Sunday. Carolina shot 60.6 percent from the field. Carolina outrebounded Mayaguez 35-24 including a 30-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Carolina looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by American forward Kristian Doolittle (201-1997, college: Oklahoma, agency: Pensack Sports) who scored that evening 16 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the other American import guard Kobi Simmons (196-1997, college: Arizona) supported him with 18 points. Four Gigantes players scored in double figures. Even 15 points and 5 rebounds by New Zealand center Tyrell Harrison (214-1999) did not help to save the game for Mayaguez . New Zealand forward Samuel Waardenburg (208-1999, college: Miami, FL) added 8 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gigantes have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Arecibo and Guaynabo. Loser Indios still keeps top position with two games lost.
